To TweetDeck or not to TweetDeck? That is the question…
Seriously, with the recent release of Twhirl’s big daddy Seesmic, should you abandon TweetDeck and change your loyalties?
Well, there are two main reasons why you may consider changing your twitter client…

Seesmic Desktop doesn't have TweetDeck's voracious appetite for RAM. At startup it weighed in at about 65Mb and has reached 79Mb after letting it run overnight. Leaving TweetDeck on would typically result in anywhere between 300 and 600Mb of memory consumed. I’ve been using Seesmic for the past week or so and I’ve found it to be very refreshing. Most of the features from TweetDeck are present in Seesmic and I would imagine in the near future the gap between them will become even closer.
I recently switched from TweetDeck to Seesmic Desktop as well and it has been a welcome breath of fresh air.
ReplyDeleteSeesmic Desktop is more responsive and, like you said, has a much smaller footprint. I don't see me switching back to TweetDeck any time in the near future.
I had tried tweetdeck and looked at Seesmic but I find it hard to part with PeopleBrowsr and its AIR app or it also has a browser flavor too...very very powerful now tool!

ReplyDeleteI've been using Seesmic for about a month. Tweetdeck not only ate RAM nonstop, it also consistently stopped responding completely for me after a few hours of usage. I've left Seesmic up and running for days at a time and never have had any issues. Only weird behavior I've seen is it responds oddly through remote desktop, but that could just be AIR. Highly recommend Seesmic.
ReplyDeleteI shall give seesmic a try, whenever I have tweetdeck open I'm not doing anything else resource intensive and even 600 megs of Ram won't affect the performance of the old system I use at home. E6600 2X1 Gigs of RAM
ReplyDeleteI preferred the Seesmic interface (although it was still a bit fussy for my liking), but it quickly ramped up 300MB RAM usage and required ctrl/alt/del to shut down. AIR is the memory prob: a Twitter client should need to use several hundred megs of RAM.
